Taking Care Of YOU This Valentine's Day | Jenngem

Ah, Valentine’s Day, the holiday synonymous with chocolate hearts and truckloads of flowers, which are already on the shelves, I might add. Yet, it can also feel like one of the most isolating times of the year. Not everyone has a “valentine,” to spend the day with, but we don’t need another person to make ourselves feel good. After all, we have ourselves, our own best friends and advocates. This Valentine’s day, vow to take care of yourself. Send the kids to grandma's and grandpa's for the day and just relax. Seriously!
While often times we may feel like we need another person to lean on in times of hardship, that isn’t always the case. Yes, sure, it may be nice to have someone next to you when you’re going through something particularly tough, but in all reality, the strength that we use to pull through the most desperate and darkest times is often found in the place we think we’re least likely to find it: in ourselves. And if you do have someone to share the day with, enjoy it together! You can each do something you love!
I’ve always believed that Valentine’s Day is a holiday created by the card companies in order to sell more merchandise, but hey, that’s just me and my opinion. The thing that I would like to re-iterate in this post is taking care of yourself. It’s of the utmost importance to take care of you. You are the most important person in your life, and you have to look at things that way, especially if you are a parent. If you’re not able to do nice things for yourself and relax every once in awhile, you can easily and quickly get burned out, and nobody wants that. So, what can you do this Valentine’s Day to take care of yourself?
Treat Yourself To Dinner

Instead of slaving over a hot stove, or microwave, in my case, treat yourself to dinner, whether it be going out, if you feel up to it – or ordering in! Take the time that you would have spent cooking, and use it to do something that you love to do, a hobby that you enjoy, read a good book, or even take a nice hot bubble bath and light some soothing lavender candles. The point is to find what makes you happy. Find that, hold steadfast to it, and don’t let go. Oh, and enjoy that yummy food!

Binge Your Favorite Shows

If you’re staying in for the night, go ahead and binge watch your favorite television show or movies! Whether it be on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu or whatever! We won’t tell anyone! Movies and television shows can easily distract us, if even only for a short time, and take away our cares. We can shift the focus of our minds off of stress for a little bit and concentrate on what is going on in the telly.

Eat Chocolate

It has been proven many times around that chocolate – most especially dark chocolate has massive health benefits. So, if the doctors say it’s good for you, I say go for it! Pick yourself up some delicious chocolate, and munch on it throughout the day. Chocolate also releases endorphins in the brain that sends signals to make us “feel good,” So go on, get to feeling good!

Get Some Extra Rest

Relaxing and rejuvenating oneself is just as important as anything else. Getting a little bit of extra sleep when you can grab it is a wonderful way to recharge yourself. Sneak in a nap while the kids aren't there! Even if it is just for an hour or two. Wrap yourself up into a fun little blanket burrito and drift off into dreamland. You totally deserve it!

How do you celebrate Valentine's Day?
