4 Ways To Overcome The "Mommy Slump" | Jenngem
The Mommy Slump? What's that? In my experience, it's those moments when you don't exactly "feel like a mom." Of course, this could be due to many different factors, whether it be depression, juggling too much between work and home, something else, or even just because. I've experienced it, which could be from my depression and OCD. But that's neither here nor there. It can happen while you're doing the dishes, cooking dinner, while you're at work, or picking up after the kids. There are moments that you'll want to pull your hair out. I'm sure I'm not the only mommy out there that has experienced this kind of "mommy slump." It isn't always bliss, but I'm sure that you've already figured that out.

It would be great if it was always like this!

But there are ways to overcome this slump. Just like there are ways to overcome that late-afternoon slump with an energy bar or going out and getting some fresh air. Here are five ways to help you cope with the good old slumpity-slump. 

1. Ask For Help

I know that sometimes it can feel demeaning to ask for help. I've totally been there, I've wanted to think that I could juggle all of this by myself, But in reality, there are days that I just can't. And I've come to realize that that is okay. If you have a friend, or family member, or even a neighbor that you can call, you can ask them to come over for a few minutes to help out with the tykes or just to hang out. Sometimes all we need is a little grown-up interaction. 

2. Breathe

Yes, this one is kind of obvious. We have to learn to take a step back and breathe. Breath is essential to life. It is essential to performing our everyday tasks, including taking care of our family and doing whatever else needs to be done. Say, if the kids are taking a nap, or are playing quietly in the next room, do yourself a favor and take a succession of deep breaths. In through the nose, out through the mouth. Try to focus on something calming. You'll feel much better once you're done.

3. Take Time For Yourself

While this might sound just like above's tip, it isn't. During the day we have the kids, then our significant other's come home, and it can often feel like we can't get one second to ourselves. Just like "date nights" are planned, talk to your partner and let them know that perhaps one night each week, have some alone time. Grab a good book to read that you've been dying to pick up, take a bubble bath, binge watch your television show. Just do something for you. 

4. Nourish Yourself

As moms, it seems sometimes that our diets end up consisting of what our children leave on their plates. But it is so so important to nourish our bodies with good and healthy foods. Fruits, vegetables, the whole deal. Make sure that you eat during the day, even if the kids make you want to pull your hair out. Take a break, make them lunch, and then give yourself something good to munch on, too! 

Sure, maybe these tips won't make you feel better immediately, but with a little patience and practice, you can overcome the slump when it decides to hit.
